Earlier this September, members of the ACityDiscount team traveled to Sandy Springs, GA to compete in Outspoken Entertainment’s $6000 Summer Finale Trivia Competition. Outspoken Entertainment is Georgia’s premier trivia / bar entertainment company, hosting trivia, poker nights, and karaoke in over 100 Georgia bars and restaurants, and the $6000 Southeastern Summer Finale marks the end of their summer trivia season.
The ACityDiscount Trivia Team
What started off as a company outing to ACityDiscount customer Lupita’s Mexican Restaurant in Norcross, GA quickly turned into a weekly gathering of employees for margaritas and Thursday night trivia. Brought together by CEO John Stack and team captain Mike Ellin, ACityDiscount associates cut their teeth playing trivia under the moniker “Deep Fried”. The team changed from week-to-week, bringing in a wide range of ACityDiscount team members and their families, as they continued fighting for the coveted gift cards bestowed upon nightly winners.
From Deep Fried To Sous Vide
After a number of months playing consistently at Lupita’s, the team members of Deep Fried decided to acclimate to current food trends, and decided to change the team’s name to “Sous Vide”. It was several weeks after this change that the team was notified of Outspoken Entertainment’s trivia season and point structure. Unfortunately, since the team won under both Deep Fried and Sous Vide, both teams were registered to qualify but neither team reached the Spring Tournament.
After learning they did not qualify for the tournament, the members of Sous Vide began making a push for the top. Attending additional Outspoken events at Tacqueria del Mar, Oyster Barn, Steverino’s Pizza, Sous Vide crawled up the ranks past thousands of other teams to qualify the Summer Season Finale Tournament at El Azteca restaurant in Sandy Springs.
The Tournament
On September 7th, an elite team consisting of Sous Vide’s top six performers made the trek to Sandy Springs to compete. Led by team captain Mike Ellin, Sous Vide competed ferociously and after the dust had settled, finished in 9th place (ironically tying with Lupita’s rivals Globe & Steverino’s Pizza rivals The Neighbors). By finishing 9th, Sous Vide is now qualified to compete in the Outspoken Entertainment Top 25 Game; an elite trivia competition which is only open to the teams which finish in the top 25 of the Summer Finale Tournament.
