This February, ACityDiscount celebrates our fifth year in our Norcross, GA SuperStore! This milestone would not be possible without our dedicated employees and loyal customers. As we celebrate, we thought we’d take a few moments to look back at our journey, as well as our time serving the community of Norcross and our loyal customers from all over the country.
The Move from Atlanta’s West End
ACityDiscount was originally located on Murphy Ave. in Atlanta’s West End neighborhood. Originally opened in 1973, the Murphy Ave. location was ACityDiscount’s base of operations for some 38 years. Our first location gave us a stronghold in the growing Atlanta market, and provided us a springboard into the commercial foodservice industry.
After ACityDiscount began offering equipment online in the late 1990’s / early 2000’s, our sales increased significantly and it became increasingly evident that something needed to change. Much like a teenager that had woken up too tall for their pants, ACityDiscount was growing too fast for our facilities to accommodate.
After several years of significant growth, owners John and Marty Stack began their search for a new location in late 2010.
After several months of shopping and deliberation, they settled on a split 60,000 sq ft facility (30,000 sq ft showroom, and 30,000 of warehouse space) in Norcross, and closed on the building at the end of January, 2011. Some alterations were made to the building in early February, and afterwards, the hardworking ACityDiscount team was able to move our entire base of operations and inventory in less than a week.
Our new showroom officially opened to the public on February 8th, 2011.
Our Time on Dawson Boulevard
Our five years in our Norcross, GA have been quite eventful (and boy, have they gone by fast!). Since moving in and opening in February of 2011, we have managed to fill every square foot of our new 30,000 sq ft showroom with commercial equipment and smallwares.
We have also nearly tripled the offerings of our e-commerce store, and significantly increased the breadth of our used equipment offerings! Aside from being able to offer our customers more options to address their new or used supply needs, ACityDiscount has also used our new showroom to deepen our ties to our local community, as well as the local and national foodservice communities.
Moving to Norcross was an important next step in ACityDiscount’s evolution. After the move, we have entered into partnerships with a number of local and national organizations. ACityDiscount has become partnered with local organizations like the Gwinnett County COC and the Georgia Restaurant Association since 2011, as well as national organizations such as FEDA, NAFED, the BBB, and ENERGY STAR®.
In addition to our work and sponsorships with these organizations, ACityDiscount has been a proud sponsor and participant in local events like the Atlanta Food & Wine Festival and Atlanta Foodservce Expo, and has worked with several local charities such as the Peachtree + Pine Homeless Shelter.
By far the most exciting part of moving our facilities was our increased visibility. Our location adjacent to I-85 and across from the proposed Atlanta Media Campus has not only increased foot traffic to our showroom, but it has gotten us noticed by a number of media outlets.
Since 2011, ACityDiscount has been featured on national televisions show Bar Rescue¸ Restaurant: Impossible, and Braxton Family Values, and has been featured numerous times on Atlanta television station 11Alive’s Ways To Save & Random Acts of Kindness segments.
Despite all of our television appearances, we have managed to stay humbly focused on our customers and delivering the best possible products to the right customer.
This has been highlighted countless times in our wealth of customer testimonials, and backed up by our numerous awards and recognitions.
In our 5 years in Norcross, we have continually earned awards from top brands like Turbo Air, Vulcan, Crestware, Arctic Air, and even industry organizations like NAFED.
The Future for ACityDiscount
Though it has been a FANTASTIC 5 years in our new location, ACityDiscount is not resting on our laurels. This move has allowed us the ability to bring in much more equipment than our previous location, and ultimately lets us better focus on our main goal: offering the best equipment and service possible at the best price.
ACityDiscount started as a small business, and we take great pride in helping entrepreneurs work towards their dreams. As we move forward, we plan on continuing to help restaurateurs in Norcross, Metro Atlanta, and all over the country build the businesses they deserve. We will be there with the same dedicated support we have given all of our customers for the past 43 years.
