History of Smokin' Gold BBQ
Dan Dieterly and his wife, Laurie, recently moved their BBQ restaurant from Dahlonega to Lilburn, Ga to be closer to their home in Lawrenceville. In order to make this happen, Dan traveled to Atlanta in April of 2018 looking for locations to move his restaurant. After a few short weeks, Dan and his wife sold their Dahlonega location and moved into the new local keeping the name - Smokin’ Gold BBQ as a nod to the restaurant’s roots in Dahlonega.
Once they were settled in, they began renovations to the building, including re-sanding the floors and countertops and giving the space a brighter appearance. They added dining booths which line the walls of the dining room. A notable feature of the dining area is a high-top lunch counter that cuts through the center of the dining room. The Dieterle’s also added several TVs in the dining room making it an inviting place for diners to watch their favorite sports teams.
Dan took advantage of ACityDiscount’s used equipment deals and local pickup discount of 20 percent to build out his kitchen. Some of the items he purchased include:
- Manitowoc Ice Machines
- APW Low Profile Toaster
- Amana Commercial Microwave
- John Boos Worktables
- Waring Food Processor
- Turbo Air Reach-In Cooler
- Various smallwares
Each dinner is presented with an amazing BBQ product right off the grill. At Smokin'Gold BBQ, no sauce is added to the finished product so each customer can select their favorite style of sauce - whether it’s the Carolina mustard, Kansas City Savory or a vinegar-based sauce. The ribs are in a league of their own and do come with a sweet and spicy finishing sauce that is slathered on right before being served. Another popular item is the brisket burnt ends, but customers can only find that deliciousness on Fridays.
Their signature sides include baked beans, Brunswick stew, corn casserole, white cheddar mac and cheese and recently added collard greens.
More about the sides…The baked beans and Brunswick stew are cooked on the smoker in order to give them a smoky flavor. The corn casserole is Laurie’s original recipe. It began as daily special and is now a staple on the menu.
Let’s not forget dessert, which includes peach cobbler, banana pudding and the newest addition brownie a-la mode. This sweet treat includes a chocolate brownie infused with Hershey’s Kisses and chocolate syrup topped with a large scoop of ice cream. Does it get any better than that?
Also new to the Lilburn location menu is draft and bottled beer. Customers can enjoy a local brew, Monday Night Brewery, on tap or select from domestic beer including Bud Light, Miller Light and Yuengling.
Prices vary from $8.95 for a pulled pork sandwich with chips (chips can be substituted with any other side item for an extra $1) to the beef brisket plate with 2 sides and bread for $13.95. There’s also a kids menu which consists of a grilled cheese and 1 side or half portions of the single meat plates for ½ the price.
So, whether you’re looking for a quick bite to eat on your lunch break or a place to gather around with friends and family and enjoy a mouthwatering meal, stop by Smokin’ Gold BBQ in Lilburn and let them show you how competition-style BBQ should taste.
