At ACityDiscount, we work hard and cook a lot. We also eat quite a bit.
From sous vide brisket and curry chicken to papas rellenas and Memphis-style ribs, the ACityDiscount team spent Friday, Dec. 14, 2018 celebrating another year in the restaurant equipment business at the annual Christmas potluck.
Sautéed gulf shrimp and lotus root salad. Macaroni & cheese, greens and cornbread. Oatmeal chocolate chip cookies, cherry pie and ice cream cake. Chips and dip and garlic fries. Oh, don’t forget about the spirits!

Catalina and Willie started the photo wall festivities, soon most followed!
“I went a little overboard, making four menu items (chicken, rice, corny bread, punch),” said Rosemarie Lewis, controller at ACityDiscount. “But they were all gone at the end of the day, so it was great not to take home leftovers.”
Said Lisa Wilson, sales assistant: “There are so many different personalities and ethnicities at ACityDiscount, but we all mesh. Each personality compliments the other, like peanut butter and jelly. These personalities carried over to the potluck menu. So of course, I had a great time hanging out with my extended family.”
Culinary compliments don’t come easy with this group. They are earned with great food. After all, our sales staff is a mix of former restaurant workers, from line cooks and bartenders to executive chefs and restaurant owners.
Urban Tree Cidery cider and Absolute vodka were among several spirits enjoyed at the potluck
Lisa Wilson's pasta salad was a fan favorite
Bob's freshly sauteed gulf shrimp had quite a kick to it!
Also on the buffet line - Catalina's Colombian papa rellenas (fried stuffed potatoes)
Among all the dishes Rose Marie brought to the potluck, her Jamaican jerk chicken was the best!

Said Lynda Willis, administrative services manager: “I had a wonderful time interacting with coworkers and trying different ethnic foods like papa rellenas, a Latin American dish, and curry chicken, which has origins in the Caribbean and Asia. And the photo booth was so much fun.”
Overall, Laird added, “it was a smorgasbord of food; an amazing variety of cooking styles, making the pot luck that much more enjoyable.”
The potluck was one of many great moments in 2018 for ACityDiscount. The Atlanta-based e-commerce company celebrated its 45th year in the restaurant equipment business – it was founded in 1973 by William “Bill” Stack, father of current President/CEO John Stack.
Also in 2018, ACityDiscount earned a national award from eBay. The e-commerce giant named ACityDiscount a Shine Awards winner in the click-and-mortar category. ACityDiscount also started a business development office to better serve larger restaurant operations and John Stack was featured in a guest column in the October edition of Foodservice Equipment & Supplies Magazine (Four Equipment Buying Tips).
