1970s

ACityDiscount is a longstanding, family owned company of 40 plus years. In 1973, William “Bill” Stack, original owner decided to move on from the department store business and into a bigger endeavor.

Mr. Stack had also spent many years in the foodservice industry, operating several restaurants throughout the 1960s, so he turned his eye toward that market. After making the choice to bring his retail knowledge to the food equipment industry, the rest was history. Mr. Stack noticed there was a need for used restaurant equipment in the Atlanta market, and put his all into filling that niche. His son John Stack, current CEO, joined his father in the business in the year 1977.

1980s

Business grew tremendously in the 1980's through the selling of used commercial kitchen equipment such as ranges, griddles, refrigeration, dishwashers, compartment sinks, and much more. This booming success proved Mr. Stack right in his hunch for the need to fill the used restaurant equipment niche.

In 1978, the name was changed from CityDiscount to ACityDiscount to optimize it in the Yellow Pages.

1990s

In the 90s, ACityDiscount continued to provide for the Atlanta market. With the rise of the internet, in 1999, the company began testing a new marketplace for selling new equipment and supplies online - eBay. This avenue served as a major turning and has stuck as a major marketplace for the company through the years. You can still find many auctions and ”Buy It Now” listings on ACityDIscount eBay Store.

2000s

In 2000, after a taste success online, ACityDiscount fully committed to developing its ecommerce presence , and later would even close its walk-in retail operation for a few years in order to focus all efforts on its online growth. During this time period, ACityDiscount developed ACityDiscount.com with the goal of providing even better service to its customers. In 2003, ACityDiscount won eBay’s over all “Best Merchandiser” award. Through the years, the website has developed into a full ecommerce website, one of the first and longest lasting in the restaurant industry.
