Georgia Power program creates financial incentives for purchase of approved commercial food equipment
Georgia Power wants in-state customers to take advantage of Energy Star rebates available for select commercial food equipment.
Georgia Power's Commercial Energy Efficiency Program, now in its eighth year, has granted Energy Star rebates to thousands of approved applicants during its lifetime, said James Holton, an implementation manager for the Atlanta-based electric company.
"We do it because it’s the right thing to do," Holton added. "We are helping them upgrade equipment that will make them more viable… the more viable they are, the longer they last (in the marketplace). That grows the economy, which means we sell more electricity."
The Energy Star rebates at Georgia Power range from electric griddles ($50) and electric deep fryers ($75) to commercial dishwashers ($250) and combination ovens ($300). Check out the complete list of items here.
In some cases, Energy Star rebates can be increased, depending on variables such as the amount of usage.
The maximum Energy Star rebate for a combination of measures is $25,000 per building per year. Rebates are also capped at 50 percent of the equipment cost.

"In many cases, the Energy Star rebates offered by Georgia Power exceed the cost of upgrading to Energy Star-rated equipment," Ellin said. "For example, the rebate for an Insulated Holding Cabinet is $300. The cost to upgrade to the insulated model is only $200 at ACityDiscount. So it’s like making a profit on your electric bill."

New in 2018: Pre-approval is no longer a requirement for Energy Star rebates. While it is still recommended, business owners are invited to visit https://www.georgiapower.com/business/save-money-and-energy/commercial-rebates-and-incentives.html to discover if an item is eligible.
Said Holton: "They don’t have to wait after submitting (model information)… They get instant feedback if it’s on the list or not."
Energy Star is a voluntary, federal program which helps businesses and individuals save money and protect the environment through superior energy efficiency. Since 1992, Energy Star and its local partners like Georgia Power have helped save American families and businesses $430 billion on energy bills, while reducing emissions.
ACityDiscount encourages its Georgia clients to take advantage of Energy Star rebates, said ACityDiscount's Krista Haynes.
"It's money back in our customers' pockets," said Haynes, lead showroom sales rep at ACityDiscount. "Simultaneously, they're doing something that protects our planet."
